Lachenaie Landfill

Services Overview:
The Lachenaie landfill receives non-hazardous solid waste from residential, commercial, institutional and industrial sources.

The landfill is located approximately 32 kilometres northeast of the city of Montreal in the City of Terrebonne, Quebec.
The non-hazardous waste comes from the cities of Montreal and Laval as well as from the municipalities of L’Assomption, Thérèse-De-Blainville, Deux-Montagnes, Joliette, Montcalm, Mirabel, Rivière-du-Nord and the Montérégie region.
Currently, Lachenaie receives approximately 30% of the residual materials produced by the greater Montreal area.
The maximum yearly tonnage of non-hazardous solid waste received at the Lachenaie site is approximately 1.3 million tonnes.
The Lachenaie landfill also boasts a gas-to-energy facility, which uses landfill methane gas to generate electricity, which in turn is fed into the Quebec Hydro energy grid. The plant generates enough power to satisfy the requirements of approximately 2,500 homes annually
