Environmental Fee

What is the Environmental Fee on my bill?

This fee is to cover the increased cost related to environmental compliance incurred by IESI Corporation and it subsidiaries.

What does Environmental compliance mean?

IESI must comply with certain regulatory requirements in the developing, operating, maintaining and closure of our waste disposal facilities as well as the increase costs related to the mandated lower emissions of operating our trucks

Why am I just now seeing this fee on my bill?

Our costs associated with environmental compliance have significantly increased due primarily to new/or changed regulations governing the operations of all disposal facilities. These increased compliance costs include engineering costs, monitoring costs, and construction costs for items such as cell construction, leachate collections and disposal, and methane collection and control.

On the collection side, the price of new trucks equipped with mandated lower emissions engine requirements has also increased significantly.

How did you come up with 6% on my bill and is this percentage going to continue to increase like my fuel surcharge does?

This percentage was determined based upon our current and future anticipated increased costs associated with environmental compliance of our operations. This fee is subject to modification if our current and anticipated environmental compliance costs change substantially. This percentage will be applied to the sum of your total charges reflective on your invoice or billing statement, excluding tax.

Doesn't the Fuel Surcharge cover these Environmental costs?

No, the fuel surcharge fee is related strictly to the operation of our collection and disposal fleet and will fluctuate with the increase or decrease in the cost of fuel. Significant increase/decrease of the costs of fuel has a major effect on our operations as our collection trucks average 4.5 mile per gallon.

Doesn't my monthly rate cover these costs?

No. The fuel pricing is changing daily. IESI would much rather you see these charges as an individual line item so you can see the increase/decrease of these costs as you see these changes at the gas pumps yourself.
